Design Technology
Design and Technology is an inspiring, rigorous and practical subject, using creativity, imagination and logic. We want pupils to design and make products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts.
In line with the National Curriculum, we want pupils to develop the creative, technical and practical expertise needed to perform tasks confidently and to participate successfully in an increasingly technological world. Design and Technology is a very cross curricular subject – drawing on disciplines such as mathematics, science, engineering, computing and art. With enterprise opportunities children are able to children are able to design a product or service and research their competitors. They can cost their products to ensure they will make a profit and take on the responsibility for the advertising and selling of their completed goods.
Teaching should allow children to take risks, become resourceful, innovative, enterprising and capable citizens. Through key concepts, pupils, including those with SEND, will become confident and proficient in using a variety of techniques and skills. By evaluating past and present technology they will be able to gain an understanding of its impact on the wider world.
